Buy a piñata from a local party supply store and fill it with your family’s favorite candy. Set it up in an area with plenty of space and take turns hitting it!

HOLD ON - WAIT! - There’s a twist. Rather than swinging a stick, each player must use their best Kung Fu punches or kicks (complete with the loud Kung-Fu noises), and of course, they MUST be blindfolded! Make sure you cover your hands with winter gloves, boxing gloves, or lots of wrapping to soften the blow. Turn on Kung-Fu music in the background. That’s a must!

1.) Get a large bucket of water.

2.) Find several fruits and veggies and put them in the bucket.

3.) Assign a number of points to each item (Example: carrots are 10 points, grapes are 5 points, apples are 2 points).

4.) Everyone has 60 seconds to get as many points as possible. If you have a large family, break into two teams and see which team gets the most points! Everyone take a turn.

Bowling with a fun twist! Play with the bumpers up, so that it’s nearly impossible to throw a gutter ball. Whoever hits the least amount of pins wins!

At the start of each round, everyone decides on a fun, unique way to bowl for that frame (example: under the legs, behind the back, left-handed, etc.). Everyone has to attempt their bowl this way for the round.

Buy a large ball of yarn. Using the entire ball and some creativity, fill a room (or several rooms) with obstacles by stringing the yarn through, around, over, and under any objects you can find. Now the challenge begins - The goal is to get from one side of the room to the other without touching any of the string! If anyone hits the string, spray them in the face with a water bottle! Whoever can get through the room the fastest wins!

Get ready to laugh - it’s time for a lip sync battle between Team Parents and Team Kiddos! The two teams get to take turns picking songs that the other team has to perform “lip-sync” style on the spot, whether or not they actually know the words!

Bonus: Record the battle with your phone and post it to social media, take a poll to see who won!

For this challenge, you’ll need a baseball bat and several round pieces of fruit (such as oranges, apples, or peaches). A parent will pitch the fruit to the kid at bat, who gets three swings. Switch places as desired. The person who obliterates the most fruit wins! For a fun bonus, record the whole thing in slow motion!

Gather these supplies to create a water bottle balloon slingshot cannon: Plastic water bottles, Balloons, and a Package of mini-marshmallows.

Cut the water bottle in half, remove the lid from the top, and attach the balloon to the top of the bottle

Drop a marshmallow down into the balloon and pull it back. You are now holding a loaded marshmallow sling shot cannon! Now it’s time for a marshmallow war!

Make sure everyone wears protective eye glasses! Set up bunkers, divide into teams, and go for it! Whoever gets hit 3 times by a mallow is OUT! Last one standing wins that round!

Start by boiling a bunch of spaghetti noodles. Make as much as you can, and get them as soft as they’ll go. Let the noodles cool down before you start the game!

Divide into teams of two. Each team will have a “tosser” and a ‘balancer.’ The ‘tosser’ will take handfuls of noodles and toss them onto the ‘balancer’ from at least 5 feet away.

The goal is to see how many noodles the ‘balancer’ can get to stick to their bodies. Measure the noodle count at the end of each 1-minute round.

Buy two dozen eggs. Hard-boil one dozen, and leave the other dozen as normal. Place all eggs in a large bowl and carefully shuffle them.

Assign a different number to each person, and roll a dice until it lands on someone’s number. That player has to smash one of the eggs on top of their own head. If the egg is hard-boiled, that player scores one point and gets to choose who draws an egg next. If the egg turns out to be raw, roll the die again to see who goes next.

Create a backyard movie experience! Bring your TV outside, then set up blankets or lawn chairs to make your own outdoor theater. As a family, write down 10 different movies that you love and put them in a hat. Have the youngest person draw out of the hat, whatever gets drawn is that night’s feature! Make popcorn, nachos, or other tasty theater treats to complete the experience.

Hopefully, you’ve played a game of 500 with a football before.

Here’s the rules:

-1 person is the thrower.

-Everyone else stands in a group on the other side of the yard.

-The thrower tosses the ball into the air and calls out a number value. Whoever catches the ball, gets those points added to their score.

-Once a player reaches 500 points, they get to become the thrower.

TWIST: Use water balloons. If it breaks, the catcher loses the amount of points called out.

Get some Popcorn Find the nearest body of water. Grab an inflatable air mattress or tie multiple inflatables together. Eat your popcorn. Ask each other these questions:

-What was your favorite thing to do when you were my age?

-What was your biggest fear when you were my age?

Questions that involve parents talking about their childhood.

- What did you wanna be when you were my age?

- Favorite food?

Questions for kids that involve.

-If you were the parent for the day, what would you do?

-If I gave you a hundred dollars, what would you do with it?

Look up some Guinness world records that seem like they’d be fun for everyone to try their hand at. Once you’ve picked three or four, everyone in the family gets to compete for the Family Name Guinness World record!

Make your own family record book, from a journal or notebook, and take pictures of the epic battles!

Time to play TAG with an ultimate twist! Get some heavy-duty velcro from a local hardware store. Secure the hard strips of velcro to a shirt. Cover as much of the shirt in velcro as you can. Wrap large cotton balls in the soft side of the velcro.

Now play reverse tag! The person wearing the shirt tries to escape, while everyone else tries throwing the cotton balls to stick onto them.

A pillow fight with a twist! Mark boundaries with objects from around the house to make an “arena” that all players must stay inside during the game. One or two parents fill a cup, bowl or pitcher with water all the way to the very top. Holding the cup securely, the parent(s) must try to keep the cup more than half full for 20 seconds while the kiddos try to knock water out of the cup using only pillows.

Get ready to go for gold! Head to the local park and make up five different challenges the whole family can compete in. Make a bronze, silver, and gold medal, and host an awards ceremony at the end!

Bonus: Have everyone make up their own “national anthem.”

For this challenge, you’ll need a blindfold and a bag of marshmallows. Choose one person to go first. That person holds the opened bag of marshmallows and puts on the blindfold. Everyone else gathers in a circle about 10 feet in diameter. Armed with his or her marshmallow grenades, the person in the middle will call out “MARSH” to which everyone on the outside of the circle must reply “MALLOW!” The person in the middle then throws a marshmallow, trying to hit someone. If someone gets hit, that person is out of the circle. This process is repeated until there is only one person standing. That survivor then gets to decide who’s in the middle next.

Buy a fanny pack for each family member (or better yet, go to the store together and let everyone pick out their own) and do a funny photoshoot with your entire “family fanny clan.” Afterward, head home and play this fun game:

Using any random book, flip through the pages and put your finger on a random word. Shout the word your finger landed on. Everyone must now find as many household items as they can think of that start with the same letter as the word you shouted. Any item works as long as it fits inside the fanny pack. Whoever gets to five items first yells “FANNY CLAN.” If all items in that person’s fanny pack start with the correct letter, that person wins!

Play your choice of dodgeball or tag using TEXAS SNOWBALLS! To make Texas Snowballs: Fill several tube socks with all-purpose flour, then tie a knot at the top.

Everyone must wear black t-shirts so that the “snow” will clearly show when someone is tagged. For added effect, order colored chalk and fill up nylon pantyhose. This will make the powder explode like crazy!

Paint a work of art using only the world and the foods around you! Everyone gets their own blank canvas, go outside and head to your favorite hiking/walking spot.

Before you leave, grab 2 things from your pantry, 2 things from the fridge, and 2 things outside. Like strawberries, mustard, or even egg yolks! As you hike with your “paint supplies,” look for weeds, dirt, berries - anything that when pressed against your canvas, will create a natural streak of color. Challenge yourself to create an all-natural masterpiece!

Put the names of extended family members into a hat. (Members that aren’t with you right now.) Everyone has to draw out a name and make a video or handwritten letter to send to that family member.

In your message to them, share something you appreciate or miss about them. Also, add in something funny like a dance or funny poem.

Make sure that as a family, you do at least 1 video together where you perform a dance/song together to make your relative laugh.

Start with canvas cloth material or a sheet cut down to the size of a flag. You can use denim, pillowcase, or muslin. The whole family will gather around and draw whatever they want using markers, paint, crayons, or whatever is preferred/available. Once everyone is finished, behold, the family crest! Hang it in your living room or hang it outside to make it official.

Write each person’s name on separate pieces of paper, then put them in a bowl. Pass the bowl around and have everyone draw a name (if someone draws their own name, they must put it back and draw again). Everyone must keep the name they’ve drawn a secret. Everyone now writes a thoughtful letter to the person whose name they’ve drawn. What do you appreciate about this person? What makes them special and different from everyone else? Why do you love them? Place all the letters in a box, and bury that box somewhere in your yard. Draw a map that leads to your treasure. An adventure later in this book will give you further instructions on uncovering the box!

Bonus: Everyone includes a small trinket from the dollar store along with their letter.

Have your whole family pick one person (a relative, friend, or acquaintance) who you would all love to surprise. Using your phone, make a short video telling that person to check their front porch. Don’t send it yet! Bake or make something you know they’ll love, then deliver it to their porch. Once the package is in place, you can send the video!

Bonus: try the “ding dong ditch” approach. Time it so that by the time they’ve finished watching the video, their doorbell rings!

Spend an evening with a bit of Italy, and a lot of mafia! For this challenge, you’ll need to buy enough pizza ingredients for everyone to make their own personal pizza. Put on some Italian-themed music, your best Italian accent, and let the fun begin!

See who can make the most creative pizza. Cut each pizza into four pieces, so you can share and trade slices.

Everyone knows that wrestlers in masks are the coolest. Gather construction paper, cloth materials, etc. to have everyone create their ultimate wrestler’s face mask.

Now, build the ultimate nacho meal. We’re talking 7 layers of cheese, meat, and toppings.

Throw on the film ‘Nacho Libre’ and see how your masks compare to the masks of the Luciadores from the film. Enjoy your nachos with Nacho.

You’ve had breakfast for dinner before - but never like this! Make your favorite breakfast foods - eggs, hash browns, pancakes - whatever you like; with one simple twist. Add food coloring!

Make every food item a different color. See if you can have the entire rainbow on your plate! Utilize the naturally colored foods like fruits and vegetables to complete your rainbow.

This will be a dinner-time adventure you won’t soon forget! Make spaghetti (or something similar) and serve it on top of a plastic table cloth - no plates, utensils, serving dishes - just the table cloth. Everyone has to eat at least five bites. See how much of the meal your family can finish together!

Bonus: Have everyone make their own custom bib!

Put on your aprons - it’s time to bake a cake for the whole family! But WAIT! There’s more....half of your crew has to be blindfolded! For this deliciously challenging kitchen adventure, have everyone pair up - one blindfolded baker and one guide. The baker and guide must work together to make the cake (either from scratch or a box, it’s up to you). Only the baker is allowed to touch the food. When the cake is complete, everyone has to eat it without using their hands!

Take the whole family to a grocery store or Asian market that has a big produce section with a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Look for options that no one in your crew has ever tried eating before (the crazier-looking, the better). Pick 3-5 different kinds. Take your selections to the park, and have a contest: Who can try the most fruits/veggies without making a funny face? Whoever is tasting has to be blindfolded and guess what they’re eating.

Create a “family signature secret-recipe popsicle” using fruit, soda, juice, lemonade, or whatever else you can imagine! If you need a little extra inspiration, feel free to Pinterest for ideas.

Make a few different variations and host a blind taste-test to determine the family favorite!

Make homemade ice cream using the recipe on our website, then see who can invent the most colorful, creative ice cream sundae using candy, chocolate, and sprinkles!

When you shake the ice cream, you better shake your booty too! Turn on some fun music and have an ice cream shaking dance party!

Make sure to take a photoshoot of all your fun creations!

Everyone is an artist in this creative challenge!

You’ll need one or two “black light” bulbs, neon paint (the more variety of colors, the better), and some craft paper.

After your bulbs are installed and everyone has a large piece of craft paper, turn off the lights and start painting your glow- in-the-dark masterpieces!

Get plain white T-shirts and a tie-dye kit from a craft store. Go back to your house, design and create a tie-dye shirt as a family. You all must wear your shirts out and about later this night. Either to the mall, dinner, ice cream, movies, etc. Take a family pic and post it!

BONUS: Mix in glow in the dark paint! See how it looks under the black light and see who can make the most psychedelic design!

Make a short family film no longer than 5 minutes. No editing or reshooting allowed! Once you record a scene, it goes in the final version. Choose from one of these topics:

1. Horrible & hilarious fake job interviews

2. How NOT to bake a cake

3. Post-game interviews after just winning or losing the championship

4. How toilets are ruining the posture of Americans.

5. Or make up your own storyline!

Using only things found in your refrigerator, make a sculpture of one of these three things:

1.) Tree

2.) Car

3.) Favorite Disney character

Bonus challenge: Have everyone wear plastic gloves while they sculpt, so after it’s completed, you can eat your creation!

Grab books, coasters, cups, balls, or anything else around the house that can be tipped or rolled. Line them all up, all over the house/living room. Slowly building the biggest, longest domino chain your house will let you build. Now.... tip it! Watch as they all topple, tip and roll from beginning to end.

Make a castle fit for a royal family using pillows, blankets, chairs - whatever you can find! It’s like a tent fort, but your building your magical kingdom instead!

Bonus: Use methanol gel to make a small “campfire,” then gather around and make some s’mores! Make sure to keep water or a fire extinguisher close by if you plan to do add the fire element!

All clear for take-off! For this high- flying adventure, everyone will be making 5 paper airplanes. Each person needs five pieces of paper and a little inspiration (you can decide whether or not internet help is allowed in the creation of the planes). Once everyone has all five of their planes made, let the games begin! Organize the competition into five rounds, with points given to the winners of each round. At the end of 5 rounds, whoever has the most cumulative points wins!

Have the entire family help you transform the living room into an obstacle course!

You can accomplish this by turning chairs/couches upside down, inflating air mattresses, weaving yarn throughout the room - the possibilities are endless! Be sure to designate a “starting line” and a “finish line.”

Players take turns navigating the obstacle course blind-folded while their team verbally “coaches” them to the finish line. Play some James Bond music in the background to enhance the experience.

Armed with at least ten dollars in quarters, go to a local arcade (or mall, pizza place...any location that has arcade-style games).

Take turns playing the “claw” game, and see how many things you can win as a team! Go to at least 3 different places with claw machines.

Your family is one awesome team, now it’s time to become a SUPER team! Using old clothes from your closets (or from a thrift store), have everyone assemble their own superhero costume! Take turns choosing superhero names, special abilities, and catch-phrases, then hit the town! Go play at a local park, run a lap around a jogging trail - embrace the stares from strangers! Maybe even play a round of mini-golf! Get 1 high five each from strangers. Use your phone to record a highlight reel video and snap some action shots. Finish the adventure by watching your favorite superhero movie together.

Using the video recorder on your phone, have one person start a completely made-up story - but just for ten seconds! That person then passes the phone to their right, and the next person records for ten seconds, before passing it on to the next person. Go until everyone has contributed three times. The last person to go has to end the story. Complete this challenge in the car while driving somewhere fun, like an ice cream shop or a park.

Select a small household object that you don’t mind letting go of. Go door to door in your neighborhood or mall or local town shops and see how high you can trade up. Ask them what they’d be willing to give you in exchange for that item. Take your new item somewhere else and trade up again. Make at least 5-10 trades.

Tell them you’re on an adventure and see if they get excited to jump in with you. You might end up with something REALLY cool!

Turn poster board into giant-sized playing cards! You’ll need to create 52 large sheets from the poster (Ace through king; hearts, spades, clubs, & diamonds). Play a game of ‘Go Fish’ where everyone in the family stands at least 10ft away from the center deck.

Twist: if someone has to ‘go fish’, then anyone else in the family can race to the deck to pick up the next card. First one there gets it. But they have to give their discarded card to the person who originally had to ‘go fish’. Have fun and play safe!

For this challenge, you will need a roll of duct tape, six bean bags (preferably three of two different colors), and a smooth surface (outdoor or indoor). Use duct tape to mark off a “tic-tac-toe” grid. Mark another line with duct tape 20 feet away from the grid (make the line closer or further from the grid, depending on your desired difficulty). Divide into two teams. Players take turns tossing the bean bags into the grid. The first team to make a line of three in a row wins!

Board games usually have the same basic rules: a player moves from the beginning space to the final space. First person to reach the finish wins! Using this concept, combined with ‘Shoots & Ladders’ you’re going to build a life-size board game at a local park! Paper plates work great as the board spaces. You can write special rules onto some of the plates like “skip ahead 3 spaces” or “move back 2 spaces”. Use the slides and ladders at the park to incorporate “Shoots & Ladders” rules. Make a giant dice out of a cardboard box and roll it to determine how many spaces you move. Have fun and make up your own rules to make it unique to you!

Go to your local park with the following things: baseball caps, plastic cups, tape, table cloth, and plenty of a small candy like M&Ms, Skittles, Chocolate covered almonds, or blueberries. Any small, round food will work.

Layout your cloth over a table or grass. With everyone’s cup taped down in front of them, open towards the middle, dump the food out into the middle of the table cloth. Now, wearing your baseball cap, use nothing but the bill of the hat to rake as much of the snack into your cup as you can in :30 seconds! Everyone goes at once and the winner is whoever gets the most shoveled in! Play as many rounds as you want before you get too hungry!

Now that you’ve completed nearly all the challenges, it’s time to commemorate your experience. Put on your superhero outfits. Dig up the Time Capsule and read the encouragements out loud, Find your family flag and hang it in a prominent place. Re-watch the funny films and videos you’ve made as a family.

This is a time to remember and enjoy all the fun you’ve had as a family. Lastly, choose a date on the calendar because you’re throwing a party! Scratch off the next challenge for details.
